The age of digital marketing has brought methods to discover leads and drive sales at lower costs than traditional methods such as tedious cold calling and expensive advertising media. You can easily generate awareness and boost engagement with your target audience with ease, from anywhere in the world.

If your audience includes a demographic that has access to the Internet, then you may want to explore the idea of implementing content marketing into your marketing strategy.

With consistent, relevant and valuable content marketing, you can reach a larger audience at almost no cost to you! Since you may already be passionate about your business, all you need to do is write about things that interest you!

But the first (or the last) step can be incredibly challenging: writing a headline that really grabs your audience. With over 2 million blog posts and 295 billion e-mails created daily, how do you write headlines that stick out?

PUZZLING IT TOGETHER

Research has shown that there are 5 types of headlines that work well. From most effective:

  1. Numerical: 5 Ways To Write A Killer Headline

  2. Aggressive: Why You Need To Write A Killer Headline

  3. Instructional: How To Write A Killer Headline

  4. Question: What Are Ways To Write A Killer Headline?

  5. Traditional: Ways To Write A Killer Headline

The most effective headline structure, as shown by the effectiveness and rise of BuzzFeed articles, is Numerical

STOP WITH THE SUPERLATIVES

Research has proven that 51% of web users surveyed prefer 0-1 superlatives on a headline. Superlatives such as "best", "perfect" or "smartest" have a tendency to be viewed as an oversell. Best practice suggests you keep them to a minimum!

ALL CAPS, ALL GOOD? (SPOILER: IT'S NOT)

Traditionally speaking, all caps are viewed as too aggressive. Over 67% (or 2 out of 3) of web users surveyed feel like they are being yelled at by ALL CAPS HEADLINES – something they do NOT like. Are YOU starting to see/hear it? (I promise that was the last one!)

With the noise that users have to filter through, the most important key to obtaining your audience's undivided and unrelenting attention is delivering great content! So be sure to back up your awesome headlines with your useful (and hopefully accurate) knowledge!
